At the first signs of memory loss or decreasing mental abilities, the person experiencing these symptoms often does not realize what is happening. Unfortunately, his or her loved ones may feel especially worried and even frightened if they do not know where to seek help for Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia and memory loss. The proper diagnosis is crucial. Often, patients and caregivers require several different specialists to make certain that the diagnosis is correct.
At the Neurological Institute’s Memory Center, your worries will be alleviated by our medical experts. A single phone call will put you in touch with a team of specialists who are trained to diagnose the condition and to treat it appropriately with their expertise and compassion.
During an initial evaluation, our team will guide you through a series of neurological, neuropsychological and nursing assessments. Our team members will discuss the test results with you and create an individual therapy plan to address your unique health issues.
Your care plan is developed by our team of experts, who also serve on the faculty of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Treatment options incorporate current research and the most effective drug therapies available. It is our mission to help you and your family understand the diagnosis and the complexities of treatment. We support you and your family through every stage of treatment.
Our experts treat numerous medical conditions, including:
- Dementia - general term that describes a group of symptoms such as loss of memory, judgment, language, motor skills and intellectual function; caused by damage or death of brain neurons
- Alzheimer’s disease - most common cause of dementia in people over age 65; represents 60 percent of all dementias
- Vascular dementia - dementia that may result from blocked arteries that supply blood to the brain or from a stroke that interrupts the brain’s blood flow; symptoms are similar to Alzheimer’s
- Parkinson’s disease - characterized by trembling, stiffness, poor balance and/or slow movement; dementia often occurs late in this disease
- Huntington’s disease - an inherited brain disorder; dementia may occur in late stages of this disease
At the Neurological Institute’s Memory Center, we offer the most advanced therapies and the best care in Northeast Ohio for patients suffering from cognitive and memory difficulties. While there is no cure at this time for Alzheimer’s disease, current medications can help delay the onset of or reduce bothersome symptoms, and help you lead a more satisfying life. We work closely with the Neuroscience Department at Case School of Medicine, the National Institutes of Health, and the pharmaceutical industry to develop and evaluate new and effective treatments for the future.
