Cancer of the cervix accounts for less than 2% of newly diagnosed cancers in women. The American Cancer society estimates that there will be 9,700 new cases of cervical cancer in 2006. Advances in detection, prevention, and treatment have lead to a decrease in both the incidence and mortality rates of cervical cancer.
Each week specialists from multiple disciplines meet to discuss gynecologic cancer cases and design comprehensive treatment programs. Cancer treatment is complemented with personalized care from oncology nurses and social workers, creating a compassionate, supportive environment for gynecologic oncology patients.
The Ireland Cancer Center is a full member and active participant in the Gynecologic Oncology group, the principal study group for gynecologic cancers. Researchers and physicians work together to offer patients the most sophisticated methods of cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
