Brain Tumors

According to the American Cancer Society, more than 18,800 people will be diagnosed with brain or nervous system cancer this year. Brain tumor is the most common solid tumor in children.

At the Ireland Cancer Center, the Neuro-Oncology Patient Care Team considers many factors when determining a treatment plan, including the patient’s age, health factors, and the type, location, and size of the tumor. The team develops a comprehensive, state-of-the-art plan that offers each patient optimal treatment and quality of life.

Treatment options for brain tumors may include:

  • Surgery
  • Radiation Therapy
    • External conformal radiation
    • Brachytherapy
    • Gamma Knife Radiosurgery
    • Sterotactic Radiosurgery
  • Chemotherapy

A multidisciplinary team enables the Ireland Cancer Center to provide advanced care and treatment for adult and pediatric patients with primary and metastatic brain tumors and related problems. The Neuro-Oncology Patient Care Team is comprised of neuro-oncologists, neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, neuroradiologists, physicists, nurses, and a comprehensive support staff. The patient’s referring physician is kept informed and involved throughout treatment to ensure continuity of care.
