Chemotherapy or hormonal therapy may be part of the treatment plan in the following instances to:
- Reduce the tumor size prior to surgery or if it is inflammatory breast cancer
- Decrease the chances of the cancer recurring
- Control cancers found in other parts of the body
The drugs are given orally or intravenously to destroy hidden cancer cells throughout the body. Physicians at the Ireland Cancer Center may use standard drug treatments or offer patients Clinical Trials that test newer drugs or treatment plans. Treatment plans are developed depending on age, menstrual status, risk for recurrence, stage of cancer, pathology tests on the tumor specimen, and your general health.
