This is a surgical procedure that tightens the anterior vaginal wall to repair a cystocele (the sinking of the bladder into the vagina) or urethrocele (the sinking of the urethra into the vagina). Bladder exstrophy repair is a surgery to repair an uncommon birth defect in which the bladder is inside out and sticks out of the abdominal wall. The pelvic bones are also separated.Bladder exstrophy occurs more often in boys and is often associated with other birth defects. Surgery to repair the defect is usually performed within the first 48 hours after birth.
