Breast Imaging Center of Excellence
Our convenient locations offer you quick access but even more importantly our expertise. The
American College of Radiology (ACR) has awarded UH Case Medical Center MacDonald and UH Chagrin Highlands Breast Centers the status of Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. This honor recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all of the College’s voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules and have achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs.
Our Expertise
All team members—surgeons, nurses, radiologists, plastic surgeons, mammography technicians, gynecologists, social workers, behavioral health experts, geneticists and support personnel—are specialists in the care and treatment of breast disease and cancer. The Breast Center encourages prevention of cancer through education and regular breast screenings. Caught early, breast cancer has a higher cure rate today than ever before.
Should a self-examination or routine screening return a result other than normal, The Breast Center services meet the challenge through:
- Second opinions on diagnosis and treatment options
- Diagnosis and treatment planning for breast cancer
- Consultations regarding breast reconstruction
- Assessment of high-risk situations based on a prior malignancy or on family history
Testing options include mammography, ultrasound and fine needle aspiration. Results are shared promptly with referring physicians. Accreditation of The Breast Center by the American College of Radiology (ACR) ensures that the mammography equipment and the technicians performing the exams meet or exceed established standards.
Following testing, a personalized treatment plan for each patient is determined.
The Breast Center’s comprehensive care involves the following:
- Surgical services
- Radiation therapy
- Chemotherapy and hormonal therapy
- Breast reconstruction
- Participation in clinical trials
- Rehabilitation services
- Lymphedema services (Lymphedema is a condition in which excess fluid collects in tissue and causes swelling.)
We know that fighting cancer requires more than medicine. At University Hospitals MacDonald Women’s Hospital Breast Center, we also take a patient’s emotional wellbeing into consideration. The following services help to lessen the stresses that accompany cancer:
- Support Groups
