Specialty Overview

The Division of Pediatric Nephrology treats children
with all types of problems of the urinary tract system including:

  • Hematuria (blood in urine)
  • Proteinuria (protein in urine)
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Urinary Tract Infection (Kidney and Bladder)
  • Kidney Stones
  • Enuresis (bedwetting)
  • Acute Kidney Failure
  • Chronic Kidney Failure
  • Electrolyte and Acid-base Disturbances

 
The Division of Pediatric Nephrology treats children with all forms of renal disease and hypertension. Therapies and procedures available include:

  • Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring
  • Kidney Biopsy
  • Dialysis (peritoneal and hemodialysis)
  • Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies

 


All modalities for the treatment of end-stage renal disease are available, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and renal transplantation. The Division includes two specialized centers: The Pediatric Peritoneal Dialysis Center provides training, support, and comprehensive follow-up for home peritoneal dialysis (CAPD and CCPD) for children with end-stage renal failure. Efforts are made to minimize disruptions in the childs usual lifestyle. Children of all ages, including infants, can be successfully dialyzed.

The Rainbow Hypertension Center assists primary care pediatricians in diagnosing and treating hypertension in children, with an emphasis on individualized therapy, including non-pharmacologic modalities.
