The goal of the program is to educate physicians in all aspects of caring for athletes. This would include medical care on and off the field. Exposure to athletes of all ages is provided, however there is a focus on the pediatric / adolescent age range. Clinical time is spent with Primary Care Sports Medicine physicians and a host of other sub-speciliasts provide elective time in: Orthopaedics (Peds and Adult), Musculoskeletal Radiology, Rheumatology, Cardiology, and Rehabilitation.
On the field sports coverage is obtained by working with high school and collegiate level teams (NAIA and NCAA Division 3). Mass-participation event coverage of youth soccer tournaments and gymnastics competitions is also provided.
As an academic institution,a focus on research is paramount. Clinical research seminars are provided, as well as quarterly Sports Medicine Journal Clubs. In conjunction with a faculty mentor, all fellows initiate and complete a research project of their choice.
